December 16 When men think that they can take hold on their destiniesWhen men think that the era has come that they are free, and that they are away from the prisons, and that they can take hold on their destinies, they find out that they have nothing to do. Freedom is like a ladderA man who decides to search for the fundamental truth of freedom will eventually find out that freedom is no different from non-freedom. Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. I agree with the second part of this statement, but concerning the first part, is he? Man is born unable to fly; he has not the freedom in the air. What is freedom? Freedom is an illusion. However, since no one can explain what an illusion is, or maybe it’s because everyone’s illusions are always different from each other, it would be better to make a parable so that the invalid human minds can perceive it. Freedom is like an endless ladder, crawled with millions of men. When a man looks upward, he is not free; when he looks downward, he is free. Therefore, he has to climb upwards. They keep climbing to the direction of freedom, but will never reach it, because the ladder is endless. Eventually they die and let go their hands and fall, but their sons born in the journey keep climbing from a higher start, and also they fall. This does not end until men come to their end. However, this ladder, since it is endless, can only float in a space without any contrasts to determine which direction is the up and which is the down. Therefore men arbitrarily decide that the direction in front of their head is up, and the direction after their feet is down. But men cannot always agree with each other. Sometimes some people decide that they are in the wrong direction, and try to go another way. Then cannot convince the opposite. So, they then have to fight those who are in their way. Millions are killed and fall, but they have to fight so that they will not go back to non-freedom. May the souls of men be blessed. December 14 IllusionsThe entire world is but a mirage. Every form is not different from emptiness. All forms are illusions. But what should we do with these illusions? Should we abandom them all? Then why should all these illusions ever be created? December 12 God is God. But the god we mortals perceive is not God.What is God? God is God. However, “god” is merely a term by which we call God. The Truth of God is unattainable to the invalid human minds that try to grab it. The Truth of God is beyond the highest level of human perception or rational thinking. The Truth of God is something we mortals cannot see, hear, feel, perceive, or even imagine. What kind of folly it is that we mortals would even attempt to think that we have attained the Truth of God? What we think we know as God is merely the god created in our minds, a projection of our own imagination based on our egos and on our rationales, an approximation that we can get but far from close to Truth. What kind of falsehood did the Chinese make, that they should call God by “emperor above”, or the Westerners by “lord”, or the Hebrews by “adonai”. Emperor and lord are titles for the mortals, how can God be called by a mortal’s name? Should we call God “he is that he is?” Why “he” then? Isn’t he the term we attribute to the living things on the Earth? Should we call God “being”? Why “being”? Isn’t “being” itself a concept of human reasoning? And at last, isn't "god" itself merely an Anglo-Saxon form by which three latin letters are arraigned? The way that can be taken is not the Constant Way; the name that can be named is not the constant Name; The tao that can be perceived is not the constant Tao; The god that can be called and adorned is not God. We cannot call God by any name, nor can we say that God is, or God exists, because all such alleges or concepts belong to the realm of human reasoning, which are but rediculous falsehood to the holy above-realm that we cannot see, heard, feel, perceive, or imagine. |
